Your latest "tell it like it is" article about IFC and the "slander" claims against The Leasing News is what separates your organization from the others in your field.

"I only wish more folks in the leasing industry would step forward and not be afraid to "tell it like it is". Why I Became a CLP

“What the Designation Means”

This is the sixth in a series about the Certified Lease Professional program, explaining why individuals decided to become a CLP, the process, and their reaction to the knowledge and other benefits gained. Many readers have asked what the “designation”

means, thus this article:

The Certified Leasing Professional (CLP) designation sets the standard for professionalism in the leasing industry, according to the CLP Foundation.

This designation identifies and recognizes individuals within the leasing industry who have demonstrated their competency, through continued education, testing and conduct.

The letters CLP behind their name represents a visible recognition of this professional achievement and status.

The CLP designation is to be placed on business letterhead, business cards and other business documents and correspondence. The CLP designation may also be used after a name when writing an article or in a resume, biography or other professional situation.

Leasing professionals with the following prerequisites may apply:

  1. A minimum five years of equipment leasing experience or at least three years of leasing and two years of commercial finance experience.
  2. Acceptable character, ability and reputation.
  3. Pledge, in writing, to adhere to the CLP Standards of Professional Conduct.

There is a single fee of $550.00 to take the exam. Once the certificate is issued, it is good for four years. Then the person has to re-certify. Re-certification costs $100.00 and is good for another four years.

When a person is certified, he/she becomes a member of the CLP Foundation. The Foundation charges dues of $75.00 per year. These dues help support the services and activities of the Foundation, which include free one-day review classes, free introductory sessions at various industry functions, administrative costs, outreach costs, etc.

The three associations who support the program do not contribute money, but provide space at their conferences for the foundation to both give classes, and exams.  The foundation has a mentor program.

Despite Apple to Run Windows: Microsoft OS #1

Netnew

(netapplications.com)

Operating system usage on end-user computers in March 2006 shows Microsoft Windows XP staying above 80% market share after first achieving that level in February. But, the hot issue worth watching is how Apple's strategy of allowing Mac users to run Windows will affect these percentages going forward. Mac OS usage grew steadily during 2005, but has been level during the first quarter of 2006.

It appears that many customers have held off on buying new Macs until Apple could ship the new Intel based versions. But, with Microsoft's new Vista operating system being delayed until 2007, and missing the critical holiday shopping season, Apple could capitalize on the opportunity and increase Mac sales dramatically at the end of 2006. For those of us wanting a fast, stable and secure PC platform with the flexibility to run all the Windows based applications, the Mac / Intel / Windows combination may just be the answer.

Note that this data is based on computers browsing the internet, and does not attempt to reflect server operating system usage.

MCG Capital Corporation Completes $500 Million Debt Securitization

ARLINGTON, Va., -FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- MCG Capital Corporation (Nasdaq: MCGC) announced today that it has completed a $500 million debt securitization through MCG Commercial Loan Trust 2006-1, a wholly owned subsidiary of MCG Capital.

The blended pricing of the issued notes, excluding fees, is approximately LIBOR plus 68.5 basis points. The securitization is an on-balance-sheet financing for MCG Capital and the Company retained all of the equity in the securitization. The securitization includes a reinvestment period of five years, during which principal collections received on the underlying collateral may be used to purchase new collateral from MCG Capital, allowing the Company to maintain the initial leverage in the securitization for the entire five year reinvestment period. Under the terms of the securitization, up to 55% of the collateral may be non-senior secured commercial loans, as compared to non-senior loans in the Company's prior securitizations in 2001 and 2004 of 1.7% and 20.8%, respectively.

In addition to the reinvestment period, a significant feature in this securitization is the Class A-2 and Class A-3 Notes. The Class A-2 Notes are a revolving class of secured notes and allow the Company to borrow and repay AAA/Aaa financing for a period of five years. The Class A-3 Notes, which are a delayed draw class of secured notes, allow the Company to access longer term AAA/Aaa financing on investments expected to close over the next year. The Class A-3 Notes are required to be drawn within the next 12 months. All of the notes are secured by the assets of MCG Commercial Loan Trust 2006-1, including commercial loans currently totaling $349.7 million, which were sold to the trust by MCG Capital, the originator and servicer of the assets. Additional commercial loans will be purchased by the trust from MCG Capital primarily using the proceeds from the Class A-3 delayed draw notes and the Class A-2 revolving notes. The pool of commercial loans in the trust must meet certain requirements, including, but not limited to, asset mix and concentration, collateral coverage, term, agency rating, minimum coupon, minimum spread and sector diversity requirements.

The new securitization facility is scheduled to terminate on April 20, 2018, or sooner upon repayment of the offered notes. The proceeds from this transaction will be used to fund our origination of investments and continued growth and to repay approximately $264.5 million of existing short term indebtedness.

The OVLA celebrate 50th year of industry advocacy, education, and service

DaimlerChrysler Fleet Operations is set for a ‘full blown' presentation to help

COLUMBUS – DaimlerChrysler Fleet Operations is set for a ‘full blown' presentation key to vehicle lessors to help The OVLA celebrate 50th year of industry advocacy, education, and service at its convention, Thursday, May 11, here at Columbus according to OVLA President William Brough of Burhill Leasing Corp., Dayton.

Brough extended an invitation to all vehicle lessors – regardless of location – in announcing the DCX presentation during the morning at the all-day session at the Courtyard by Marriott West (formerly Holiday Inn-West which has been newly renovated), Roberts Rd/I-270 Exit.

The OVLA president said Mark Charlson, National Fleet Sales Manager for the DCX Central Region, and Fred A. Kalmbach, the DCX Regional Account Executive out of Mason, Ohio, would offer the PowerPoint presentation and be available to “network” with vehicle lessors.

Also on the program, according to Brough, will be Joan Coughlin, a vice president with the Better Business Bureau of Central Ohio, would will speak on “Security & Privacy” as a part of The OVLA's efforts to educate its members on the need to and how to safeguard data they are required to collect and store as a result of federal laws such as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.

Ohio now had a mini version [See Feb. 24, 2006, The OVLA Lessor] which provides for steep fines for violations. Copies of the Ohio law as well as an analysis are available for free to all members in good standing by emailing a request to the Association office.

Brough said early registration pricing for the 50th year celebration – a must-attend event for anyone in the vehicle leasing industry, from dealers, manufacturers, and auto auctions to internet companies, technology companies, and banks and finance companies – would end May 9.

He said the first representative of an OVLA or NVLA member could attend, if registered before deadline at $120 – a savings of $30. The fee for additional OVLA and NVLA members is $100 with a savings of $25. Non OVLA or NVLA members are surcharged $50.

Brough said the convention agenda also would include sessions, with speakers to be announced, on: marketing and sales, with emphasis on the internet; presentations by major vehicle manufacturers, and on locating and approaching funders.

As always, pointed out Brough, a major part of any OVLA meeting are the multiple networking opportunities, such as breakfast being sponsored by Manheim's Ohio Auto Auction, breaks being hosted by the Columbus Fair Auto Auction, and lunch with DCX as a sponsor.

The OVLA presidents said all conventioneers and OVLA members not attending would receive an OVLA mouse pad sponsored by ADESA–Cincinnati-Dayton. The Dayton Auto Auction is sponsoring the registration packet and desk.

Coughlin was selected, said Brough, because the BBB, in cooperation with a number of businesses has published a “toolkit to assist small businesses in complying with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and related Safeguard Rules. The kit is available at www.bbb.org/securityandprivacy/

Coughlin told The OVLA the kit was introduced "to demystify the complexities of data security and give small businesses, like vehicle leasing companies, a non-technical roadmap to securing their customer data and their employees' data, too."

Are You Registered To Attend The 50th Year Celebration of The OVLA's Industry Advocacy, Education, & Service Thursday, May 11, at the Courtyard by Marriott [formerly Holiday Inn West] at Roberts Rd and I-270

Confederate Memorial Day in Alabama. On the fourth Monday in April, other Southern states observe Confederate Memorial Day on different dates.

Confederate Memorial Day in Mississippi. Annually, on the last Monday in April. Observed on other dates in some states.

The history of Confederate Memorial Day lays its roots back to 1862 when a grieved widow of a Confederate soldier started a pilgrimage to his graveside. The inspiration came from her small child who would pick the weeds and place flowers on the unmarked Confederate soldier's graves commonly referring to them as her soldier's graves.

The Georgia General Assembly in 1874 provided legislation for a new public holiday that April 26th of each year would be known as Memorial Day. Georgia Governor James Smith signed the legislation into law. It appears that the reason for the 26th of April date was that was the date that General Joseph E. Johnston surrendered in North Carolina thus bringing the end of the War between the States for Georgia. In the language of this legislation it is clear that April 26th was already being celebrated as Confederate Memorial Day in the state unofficially. Below is an excerpt from the Confederate Veteran magazine (1893) which may shed some light on the holidays beginning.

On April 12th 1866, a woman's memorial association in Columbus, GA called for a special day of memorial. On April 26th, 1866 an Atlanta Ladies Memorial Association held a Confederate Memorial observance at Oakland Cemetery. Many Southern States observed Confederate Memorial Day on different dates. Florida joined Georgia celebrating it on April 26th. Mississippi celebrates Confederate Memorial day on the last Monday of April. Alabama celebrates it on the forth Monday of April. North and South Carolina celebrate it on May the 10th which is the anniversary of Jefferson Davis's capture. Louisiana and Tennessee celebrate on June 3rd, where Tennessee calls the observance Confederate Decoration Day. The reason for June 3rd is that it is Jefferson Davis's birthday. Texas celebrates Confederate Heroes Day on January 19th (Gen. Robert E. Lee's birthday) and Virginia calls its Confederate Memorial Day the last Monday in May. The reason that we celebrate is to remember the lives of these veterans and the sacrifices they made. To pay honor and respect to the heroes of the Southland...the Southland that they shed their blood for...for the very blood that courses through our own veins...for the pride they left for us and the pride we have for them. We should all celebrate Confederate Memorial Day and its observance within our local communities. Sons of Confederate Veterans Camps all over the United States do observances for the Confederate Veterans on these Memorial dates and I challenge anyone reading this to get involved with these observances and be a part.

1911—the National Urban League, American voluntary-service agency tracing its origins to 1911 and dedicated to eliminating racial segregation and discrimination and helping blacks and other minorities to participate in all phases of American life. By the late 20th century more than 110 local affiliated groups were active throughout the United States. It is headquartered in New York City. In 1911 three organizations--the Committee for Improving the Industrial Conditions Among Negroes in New York (founded in 1906), the League for the Protection of Colored Women (founded 1906), and the Committee on Urban Conditions Among Negroes (founded 1910)--were merged to form the National League on Urban Conditions Among Negroes, which sought to help blacks, especially rural Southern blacks migrating to New York City, to find jobs and housing and generally to adjust to urban life. The model organization established in New York City was imitated in other cities where affiliates were soon established. By 1919 the national organization had assumed the shorter name, National Urban League. From its founding, the League has been interracial--the chairman of the board traditionally being white and the president and chief executive officer (overseeing day-to-day operations) being black. The primary task of helping migrants gradually evolved over the years into larger concerns, and, especially under the presidency of Whitney M. Young, Jr. (1961-71), the League emerged as one of the strongest forces in the American civil-rights struggle. Under his successor, Vernon E. Jordan, Jr. (1971-81), the League furthered its vision by embracing such causes as environmental protection, energy conservation, and the general problems of poverty. Under the presidency of John E. Jacob (1982-94), the agency renewed its emphasis on social welfare.

Confederate Memorial Day

Author Unknown

The marching armies of the past
Along our Southern plains,
Are sleeping now in quiet rest
Beneath the Southern rains.

The bugle call is now in vain
To rouse them from their bed;
To arms they'll never march again--
They are sleeping with the dead.

No more will Shiloh's plains be stained
With blood our heroes shed,
Nor Chancellorsville resound again
To our noble warriors' tread.

For them no more shall reveille
Sound at the break of dawn,
But may their sleep peaceful be
Till God's great judgment morn.

We bow our heads in solemn prayer
For those who wore the gray,
And clasp again their unseen hands
On our Memorial Day.
